In flight this week

What we are working on right now

  • Beta launch with first friendly client. P0 sprint is closed. The next risk surface is a real event, not more solo testing.
  • Real-money PayFast end-to-end test (sandbox round-trip with refund).
  • Email deliverability dashboard (SPF/DKIM verifier per tenant).
v0.23.0
Feature

Exhibitor teams and staff passes

Whoever books a stand adds the people who work it. Each gets their own portal link, and stand staff get a ticket and badge, within the number of passes you set.

Added

  • Their own link, no forwarding Every team member gets a personal exhibitor portal link by email. Remove one person without affecting anyone else.
  • Staff passes you control Set how many people each exhibitor may put on the stand, per exhibitor or in bulk, and change it any time.
  • Tickets and badges for stand staff Stand staff get a free ticket, check in like everyone else and print an exhibitor badge with their company, stand number and sponsor tier.
  • Get my link Staff enter their work email to get their link, without waiting on the colleague who booked the stand.
  • Who scanned which lead Every lead shows which team member captured it, in the portal and in the export.
v0.22.0
Feature

Badge templates made for your organisation

Badge designs made for your organisation now appear in Badge Studio for your team only, and print with each attendee's QR code, name and ticket type.

Added

  • Your own badge templates A badge design made for your organisation shows first in Badge Studio, under "Made for your organisation". No other organisation can see or use it.
  • Your artwork, live details Print your designer's artwork with the QR code, check-in code, title, name and ticket type filled in for every attendee.
  • Long names fit Long names shrink or wrap to stay inside their space on the badge instead of running over the design.

Changed

  • Your designs stay yours Ticket design pickers, previews and printing only use your own designs and the shared standard ones. The shared standard designs can no longer be changed from an organisation's account.
v0.21.3
Feature

New logo, certificate signatures, bounce tracking

A new Event Star logo, signatures on certificates, and a clear view of emails that bounce, without blocking anyone automatically.

Added

  • Signatures on certificates Upload, draw or type up to two signatures. They print on the signature line with the name and title.
  • A fresh look The new Event Star logo across the site, emails and invoices.

v0.21.2
Fix

Team invitations work again

The link in a team invitation email opened a "page not found". It now lets the person you invited choose a password and join your team with the role you picked.

Fixed

  • Invitation links open People you invite from Settings > Team Members enter their name and a password and are signed straight in. Links you already sent keep working until they expire.
  • Real roles Choose from the same roles as on the team member form, with Event Coordinator as the default.
  • Send it again Inviting someone again sends a fresh link, and the old one stops working.
v0.21.1
Fix

Print the right ticket or badge from Registrations

Registrations now has Print ticket and Print badge, for one attendee or a selection, each in the design set for that ticket or event.

Fixed

  • Your designs, not a generic sheet "Print Tickets" printed four generic cards on a sheet. Tickets now print in the design set for the ticket or event, or your default: the same ticket attendees get by email.
  • Print badges from Registrations Print the badge assigned to the attendee's ticket, or the event's default badge, for one attendee or a selection, on a label printer or on A4 sheets to cut.
  • Know what prints Each print dialog says which ticket or badge design is used, and when a badge has no design yet.
  • Confirmed attendees only Pending, cancelled and refunded registrations are left out of printing.
v0.21.0
Feature

Attendee titles on tickets and badges

Attendees can add a title such as Dr, Mrs or Prof when they register, and it prints with their name on every ticket and badge.

Added

  • Title on the registration form Each attendee, including everyone in a group booking, can pick a title before their name.
  • Your choice per event Make the title optional, required or hidden, and choose which titles to offer, under Events > Attendee Title.
  • Title, name and surname Tickets, badges, Zebra labels, certificates, check-in screens and confirmations now read "Dr Jane Smith".
  • Admin, imports and API Add a title when editing a registration, at the walk-in desk, in a CSV import or through the API. Exports and the POPIA data export include it.

Fixed

  • Hidden tickets stay hidden A ticket you switch off or hide no longer appears on the registration page, matching the event page.
v0.20.0
Feature

Exhibitor portal links and booth lead capture

Send each exhibitor a private portal link to scan attendee badges at their booth and download their leads, with smoother scanning on the day.

Added

  • Send exhibitors their portal Email the private portal link to an exhibitor, to one of their booth staff, or to many exhibitors at once. Copy it to share on WhatsApp.
  • Reset a portal link Issue a new link when one gets into the wrong hands. The old link stops working straight away.
  • Richer leads Leads now include the attendee's job title and phone, in the portal and in every lead export.

Changed

  • Smoother scanning No page reload after each scan, so the camera stays on and iPhones stop asking for camera permission every time. Handheld barcode scanners work too.
  • Busy venues Booths sharing the same venue Wi-Fi no longer share one rate limit.

Fixed

  • Own event only A booth can only capture attendees of the event it is exhibiting at.
  • Safe spreadsheets Lead exports can no longer carry formulas that run when opened in Excel or Google Sheets.
v0.19.2

  • Self-check-in badges by email Attendees who self-check-in without a kiosk are emailed a link to their own badge PDF, so they can print it themselves.
v0.17.1
Polish

  • Organiser moderation Approve or reject uploads individually or in bulk from the event's Gallery tab, with a full-size preview. Required by default; an auto-approve toggle skips review.
  • Leaderboard points for uploads Uploading a photo earns leaderboard points, taken back if an organiser rejects it.

  • Event edit tabs not appearing Venues, Tracks, Speakers, Sessions, Tickets and Gallery were meant to show as tabs on the event edit screen but weren't rendering; they now do.
v0.16.0

  • Secondary brand colour Add a second colour in Settings > Branding for a two-tone gradient on your public event pages.
v0.13.0

Walk-ins can now pay: collect cash or card at the desk, send a payment link to pay on their own device, or issue a complimentary registration. Every walk-in becomes a real order in revenue and invoicing.

Added

  • Collect at the door Take cash or card at the desk and confirm the registration on the spot.
  • Send a payment link Email the attendee a link to pay on their own device; the registration confirms when they pay.
  • Complimentary registrations Issue a free registration, permission-gated and audited.

Fixed

  • Paid walk-ins are no longer free Walk-in registrations now create a real order and invoice instead of being silently confirmed for free.
v0.12.0

Changed

  • One visual designer The Ticket Designs library opens the same studio used per ticket, instead of a separate flat form.
  • Email in the studio Confirmation-email subject, body, and show-QR are edited alongside the design.
  • Full colour scheme Accent, background, and text colours, pre-filled from your brand.
  • Preview on select Preview a design as a sample PDF when creating a ticket.
v0.11.1
Improved

Ticket design selection

Pick an existing ticket design or create one inline when creating a ticket. Designs are shared across ticket types instead of duplicated per ticket.

Changed

  • Pick or create a design Both the Tickets form and the event quick-create share one "Ticket design" field: reuse an existing design or "Save as new design" inline (name + starter layout).

Fixed

  • No more duplicate designs Quick-create no longer mints a near-duplicate design per ticket. Several tickets can share one design with no extra library rows.
v0.11.0
Feature

Ticket Templates v2

Tickets now use the same template + branding designer as badges, on one shared slot engine. A Ticket Studio, inline quick-create, and badge-to-ticket-type assignment complete the unified design flow.

Added

  • Shared slot-design engine Badges and tickets render from one extracted resolver core (App\Services\SlotDesign) with no duplication. Badge behaviour unchanged.
  • Ticket form factors + catalogue Standard A5, boarding pass, and receipt form factors with 7 branded ticket templates.
  • Ticket Studio A per-ticket template + branding designer mirroring the Badge Studio, with live preview through the same resolver that renders the emailed PDF.
  • Slot-mode ticket PDFs PdfTicketService renders the slot path when a ticket is in slot mode; legacy Advanced designs still render.
  • Inline quick-create Create a ticket and seed a branded template in one step from the event Tickets list, then fine-tune in the Ticket Studio.
  • Badge to ticket-type assignment Assign a badge to specific ticket types from the Badge Studio; the kiosk resolver consumes the mapping unchanged.
v0.10.0
Feature

  • Form factor system Badges now declare a physical type (badge card, lanyard card, wristband, table tent, sticker) with correct dimensions and print-path routing.
  • 9 new badge templates 3 lanyard, 2 wristband, 2 table tent, 2 sticker templates. 21 system-authored templates total.
  • Branding inheritance Accent colours and logo pre-fill from tenant brand. Per-badge overrides stay independent.

  • Branding wizard Stepped slot editor: form factor, filtered gallery, then branding with live preview.
  • Print-path routing Bulk form factors use N-up batch printing. Kiosk on-demand reserved for badge/lanyard cards.

Changed

  • Default badge mode New badges default to Slot mode (template-first). Advanced designer parked behind feature flag.
v0.9.0
Enterprise

Enterprise SSO

Per-tenant SAML 2.0 and OIDC Single Sign-On for the admin panel. Configure your IdP, test safely, then enforce SSO for your entire organisation.

Added

  • Just-in-time user provisioning Users who authenticate via SSO but have no Event Star account are created automatically with a configurable default role. Domain allowlist enforced.
  • Test mode Verify your SSO configuration with org_admin accounts before rolling out to all staff. No risk of locking anyone out during setup.
  • Require SSO enforcement Block password login for tenant staff. Super-admin break-glass access preserved and audited.
  • SSO setup guide Step-by-step instructions for Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, and Google Workspace covering both SAML and OIDC protocols.
v0.8.0
Feature

Community and Engagement GA

Community posts and comments, direct messaging, live polls with Reverb broadcasting, attendee Q&A with moderation, and gamification leaderboard - all GA behind their respective feature flags.

Added

  • Community posts and comments Attendee-facing community board for post and comment submission. Topics: general, networking, help, announcements. Comments paginated per post. Gamification points: 20 for posts, 10 for comments. Admin moderation (hide, unhide, delete) via Filament. Gated behind the networking feature flag.
  • Direct messaging Attendees exchange messages within an event. Conversations grouped by sender/recipient pair, marked read on view. Unread count badge in portal navigation (30-second polling). Content validated (max 1000 chars). Manual created_at column (Eloquent timestamps disabled). Gated behind the messaging feature flag.
  • Live polls with real-time results Attendees vote on polls and see results update instantly via Laravel Reverb. One vote per session enforced, invalid option IDs rejected.
  • Q&A board for attendees Submit questions during sessions, upvote others (one per session). Sorted by votes descending. Hidden questions excluded from public view.
  • Q&A admin moderation Filament resource for organisers to answer questions, mark answered, or hide inappropriate submissions. Filtered by status.
  • Gamification and leaderboard Idempotent point awards for attendee actions (check-in 50, post 20, comment 10, poll vote 15, Q&A submit 10, Q&A upvote 5). Real-time leaderboard with auto-refresh polling. Gated behind the gamification feature flag.
v0.7.1
Polish

Public surfaces + admin polish

Same-day follow-ups to v0.7.0 covering the public storefront (this changelog, the roadmap, the footer) and the admin panel positioning that makes the product saleable.

Added

  • Public Changelog + Roadmap pages You are reading the result. The Resources dropdown in the nav, the Now/Next/Later/Parked roadmap with Q3/Q4 date badges, the in-app "What's new" pill on the admin dashboard - all part of this drop.
  • Per-user "Log in as" impersonation Super-admins can now log in as ANY specific user, not just the tenant org admin. Critical for testing role-based permission paths.
  • STATUS.md handoff doc Single-screen status file so a fresh session can know where we are in 30 seconds.

Changed

  • Admin panel: light mode default + dark toggle Was previously following OS preference (often dark). Now defaults to light with the toggle visible in the user menu - modern B2B SaaS expectation.
  • Inter font + gradient brand logo + 6-bucket colour palette Admin panel now feels closer to Linear / Vercel / Notion than a generic CRUD builder. SPA navigation (no full page reloads). Collapsible sidebar.
  • Footer attribution Now reads "Powered by Jozi Blocks (Pty) Ltd x Raley Digital (Pty) Ltd" with both names linked.

Removed

  • Em-dash character Stripped from every file in the codebase (138 files touched) due to a rendering quirk in the user's frontend.
  • RSS feed Built then removed - the XSL/MIME handling on the underlying static server was unreliable and the feature was not earning its complexity.

Fixed

  • WhatsNewWidget icons at viewport scale Tailwind utility classes are not reliably present in Filament's compiled CSS bundle. Switched to inline styles + explicit SVG width/height attributes.
  • Impersonation banner wording Was backwards. Now reads "Logged in as X (role) - return to Y (Super Admin)".
  • Defensive Carbon date parse Bad date strings on the changelog no longer 500 the page.
v0.7.0
Milestone

P0 Sprint Complete

The seven P0 items in our readiness scorecard are all green. This is the gate we call "beta-ready" - time to start a controlled rollout with a real event.

Added

  • Tenant subscription + charging The largest gap in the product. Trials, activations, renewals, dunning, cancellation, expiry - the full state machine. 17 automated tests cover every state transition. Built to a zero-defect bar.
  • Per-user impersonation Super-admins can now log in as any specific user (not just the tenant org admin). Banner shows role labels so you know what permissions you are testing. One-click return.
  • Automated test backbone 34 tests covering tenant scoping, payment webhooks, refund flow, signed URLs, feature flags, and the subscription system. PostgreSQL test database - same engine as production.
  • POPIA data export + deletion Per-tenant data export and right-to-erasure flow. Settings -> Data Privacy.
  • Onboarding wizard Getting Started widget on the admin dashboard guides new tenants through their first event setup.
  • Multi-tenant isolation diagram Public technical brief at docs/tenant-isolation.html for procurement and investor conversations.

Changed

  • Payment hardening across the board Webhooks are now idempotent under replay. PaymentService side-effects moved outside the DB transaction. TOCTOU-safe ticket sold-out check between concurrent buyers. PayFast and Paystack both expose refund().
  • Defensive tenant scoping Explicit tenant_id filter on every admin home widget in case the global scope ever fails to prime.

Fixed

  • Impersonation banner wording Was backwards. Now reads "Logged in as X (role) - return to Y (Super Admin)".
  • Session id regeneration On both impersonation entry and exit. No session-fixation risk.
v0.6.0
Feature

Badge designer themes + kiosk hardening

The badge designer matures with theme catalog, brand inheritance, and PDF auto-print so demos work without Zebra hardware.

Added

  • Badge designer themes Surface theme filter, 6-theme catalog, Canva-style text resize, page reflow, tenant brand colour inheritance.
  • Kiosk PDF auto-print Demos no longer require a real Zebra printer.
  • Refund column Added to orders table in preparation for the refund flow.

Fixed

  • Kiosk camera fallback chain Graceful degradation plus visible error UI.
  • Kiosk Alpine.js loading Was missing entirely - every directive was dead.
  • Workshop theme qr_code literal was leaking into the canvas.
v0.5.0
Pivot

Phase 2 convergence

Tickets become form-driven while badges keep the canvas designer. Sipho Gumede demo seeder added as a full-stack regression test.

Added

  • Sipho Gumede demo seeder A full event seeded end-to-end. Doubles as a regression test for the whole stack.
